Japanese
Japanese is taught in Year 8. It is elected by the students as part of their mandatory study of 100 hours of a language other than English in Stage 4.
The Japanese course provides the opportunity for students to continue their language learning in Year 9 through to Year 12 without interruption. This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to acquire and develop practical skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
We wish to encourage in students a familiarity with Japanese ways of behaviour and ways of thinking, with an appreciation of the similarities and differences between Japanese and Western cultures. We hope that students will experience personal satisfaction and enhanced literacy skills through the learning of another language.
