Spiritual Life
The Catholic life and mission of Mater Maria embraces all aspects of the Catholic life of the College and is guided by our mission statement. It is evident in the Religious Education curriculum; reflected in the symbolic and prayer life of the College, and fostered through youth ministry, parish links and social justice initiatives. The integration of Catholic values into teaching and the Mater Maria community is revealed in the relationships between students, teachers, parents and pastors.
Our Catholic worldview places the Kingdom of God at the core of our mission. As a faith community we aim to educate our young men and women in the light of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic tradition. Our teaching practices reflect our spirituality and while not all students belong to the Catholic tradition, all students participate in the Religious Education program and the spiritual dimension of our community. This permeates the whole of College life. In every Liturgy, student participation is encouraged in readings, music, procession, responses and preparation of prayer. Our opportunities for prayer and liturgies are diverse and extensive.
The spiritual development of students is seen as paramount, not just in terms of religious knowledge, but in the broader sense of faith helping students make sense of their own lives within a contemporary world, to enable them to find meaning in what, at times, can seem an inexplicable world.
