Dance

The Stage 5 Dance course is a new course offered at the College. In 2003 it is a Years 9 and 10 composite class with a professionally trained dance teacher.

Dance being a unique art form incorporates related arts of music, art and drama. The aims of the Dance syllabus is to develop in the students the ability to express themselves through dance; compose, perform and choreograph in dance; and develop skills and techniques of dance with an understanding of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. It also encourages an appreciation of dance as a performing art, promotes an understanding and acceptance of a variety of dance styles and seeks in the students to obtain knowledge of dance in an historical context.

Content

Dance Performance

Students develop the knowledge skills and understanding essential for safe preparation of the dance, through training and practice. Classical and modern dance techniques are used.

Composition

Students explore the elements of dance as the tools employed by the dance composer to communicate ideas and feelings through dance.

Appreciation

Students acquire skills, knowledge and understanding to be able to communicate their personal responses to dance in oral and written form.

Text

No text is required; however, students will need to have appropriate dance shoes and dance exercise attire.
