Italian
The aims of the Italian course are:
- To encourage and enable all students to enjoy learning and to be self-motivated, reflective, competent learners who will be able to take part in further study, work or training.
- To engage and challenge all students to maximise their individual talents and capabilities for life long learning.
- Prepare all students for effective and responsible participation in their society, taking account of moral, ethical and spiritual considerations.
- To encourage in students a familiarity with Italian ways of behaviour and ways of thinking, with an appreciation of the similarities and differences between Italian and Australian ways.
- To promote a fair and just society that values diversity.
- To make possible some understanding of the functioning of language through the study of Italian.
- To develop in students the basic skills which would enable them to further their knowledge of the Italian language at a higher level.
- To encourage the personal satisfaction and enjoyment which can be gained through the experience of learning another language.
- To promote continuity and coherence of learning and facilitate the practical skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Content
- Using Language- Students will develop the knowledge, understanding and the listening, reading, speaking and writing skills necessary for effective interaction in Italian.
- Making Linguistic Connections- students will explore the nature of languages as systems by making comparisons between Italian and English, leading to an appreciation of the correct application of linguistic structures and vocabulary.
- Moving Between Cultures- Students will develop knowledge of the culture of Italian -speaking communities and an understanding of the interdependence of language and culture, thereby encouraging reflection on their own cultural heritage.
