Stage 5 Curriculum

General Information

All students enrolled in the junior school engage in studies leading to the award of the School Certificate. The regulations, procedures, examinations and course of study are under the guidance of the Board of Studies. All courses of study offered by the College are following syllabuses either produced or approved by the Board.

In Years 9 and 10 there are five House classes. English and Mathematics classes are graded, and students in Science, Australian History and Australian Geography classes are clustered based upon their ability.

Assessment & Reporting

All subjects completed by the end of Stage 5 contribute the mandatory hours of study set by the Board of Studies and appear on the School Certificate Testamur. In Year 10, students sit the following external examinations:

  • English Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Science and Technology
  • Australian History, Australian Geography, Civics and Citizenship
  • Computing Skills

A Homework timetable is planned and distributed to students in Years 9 and 10. This provides regular homework for students with three subjects per evening and totalling one and a half hours per night.

An assessment manual is also distributed to students at the beginning of the year indicating the due dates for all assessments. It also outlines the assessment requirements for the School Certificate. Examinations form part of this assessment and are performed at the end of each semester.

Semester reports are sent home at the completion of each semester and parent teacher evenings are held once per year, prior to the mid year examinations.
